5 simple ways to refresh your style in 2023

Happy New Year!

It’s hard to be enthusiastic about what to wear in January when you just want to hide under the duvet all day.  Now the glitter and sparkles are packed away, your wardrobe can feel dull and tired. Clothes have a massive effect on our mood so if you’re feeling dull and tired too it’s no surprise.

The good news is there are a few simple ways you can refresh your style and create mood boosting feel good outfits.

To help you do that, here are my five top tips to help you banish the Winter blues and create outfits that make you happy:

1. Wear more colour

It’s a fact that wearing colour can boost your mood and confidence. ‘Dopamine dressing’ is a thing and all about the feel good factor of wearing brightly coloured clothes. For more details read this article in Vogue. You don’t have to go the full  Zandra Rhodes either, just one brightly coloured item of clothing is enough to do the job

2. Add one thing to your outfit before leaving the house

I know this is the exact opposite of what Coco Chanel said and no disrespect to her but in my experience most women ‘under accessorise’. A beautiful scarf or piece of jewellery is all you need to lift your mood and has the added bonus of adding the finishing touch to your outfit too.

3. Embrace the figure you have

Of course, we all want to be the same size we were in our twenties but most of us aren’t – that’s a fact! Unless you are planning to embark on a new exercise/eating plan or marrying Joe Wicks then your figure is unlikely to change. Accept the size you are now and dress for it. You’ll feel far happier for it.

4. Sweat the small stuff

I’m talking about underwear. Get rid of any fading, fraying and shabby lingerie and treat yourself to a matching set in the colour it was intended to be. Even if no one else sees them you’ll know and feel a whole lot better for it. I have it on good authority that Stripe & Stare’s knickers are game changers. I’m actually going to order some myself after being a lifelong M&S fan. I’m living life on the edge huh! Don’t forget to research discount codes before buying.

5. Don’t save your best clothes

I’m not suggesting you bring out the sequin jumpsuit for a work meeting but saving clothes for days that never come results in items not being worn at all. Find the occasions in your week to put on the special pieces in your wardrobe. The easiest way to do this is mixing them with casual pieces e.g. a smart blouse with a roll neck underneath and jeans or a satin slip skirt with a knit and chunky boots.
