Struggling to know what to wear for video conference calls?

Are you doing more video calls than ever before but finding it hard to find suitable outfits?

It’s a tricky business of needing to look stylish from the neck up for video whilst keeping warm and comfortable at the home office/kitchen table. To help you navigate the balance of looking too formal or like you’ve just got out of bed, here are also 5 simple ideas that will help you feel great and look stylish for your next video conference:-

1. Loose cut trousers

You need trousers that are smarter than your old joggers but are comfortable enough to sit around in all day. Don’t make the mistake of staying in your pyjama bottoms all day. This does nothing to get you into work mode and also there’s a chance you may have to get up during the call – has anyone seen the videos?! This style looks smart and are made from jersey fabric so you will have no issue wearing them around the house all day.

2. Cardigans

I’m thankful that these came into fashion recently. They are easier to wear than a jacket at home and great for keeping you warm which I know from experience is an issue when you’re stuck at a desk all day. You can dress them up for a smarter look with a blouse underneath or just a t-shirt or roll neck if your dress code is relaxed.

3. Colours

Wear a colour that flatters your skin tone and avoid dark heavy tones that can leave you looking washed out. A bright or vibrant colour would work well but if you are not a fan, a soft neutral colour will do. Avoid stark white as this doesn’t work well on camera. Off white or ivory would be a good alternative instead.

4. Details

It’s important you feel great in what you are wearing so think about the little touches or details that will bring you joy throughout your day. It could be jewellery, a scarf or even wearing a sequin or two if that takes your fancy. Personally, I’m going for balloon sleeves as I love this style and will wear it when isolation is over so I’m happy to invest in it now.

5. Keeping warm

I prefer to have the heating off for the best part of the day otherwise I’ll be asleep at my desk after lunch! That does mean that I need to wear clothes that keep me warm but don’t make me feel like the Michelin man. If you are someone who feels the cold too then the Uniqlo Heat Tech range is a lifesaver. They are thin enough to sit under any garment without looking bulky and they allow your skin to breathe.
